New York Lights Aren't Too Bright for Giants QB Russell Wilson

New York is one of the biggest stages in the sports world, and it will have a new star trying to bring the city some wins.

Veteran quarterback Russell Wilson signed a one-year, $10.5 million contract with the New York Giants this offseason to be the next starting quarterback of the historic franchise.

Despite all of the eyes that will be on him, the 36-year-old quarterback said on a recent episode of the 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony podcast that it does not really bother him.

"The opportunity here is so great. I don’t mind the lights," Wilson said. "I’ve been here before. When you walk into a stadium, into a locker room, and you know, like my locker is the same locker I had when I won the Super Bowl... So, I fundamentally believe it’s possible in terms of being successful again and being at the highest level. I think we got the right guys... There’s a lot of good pieces to it. And it’s a show."

Wilson won Super Bowl XLVIII in MetLife Stadium back in 2014 against the Denver Broncos, so he knows a thing or two about getting it done in the Big Apple.

Many are writing off the Giants this season because of their 3-14 record in 2024, but Wilson seems confident. They have a number of young pieces that can make an impact, most notably superstar wide receiver Malik Nabers.

Thus, Wilson has weapons with which he can get the job done. Head coach Brian Daboll elaborated on his quarterback during OTAs.

"He's a pro," Daboll said. "There's a reason why he has had the career that he's had. When you look at his work ethic, his commitment to being the best version of himself that he can be, how he's out here at practice, his leadership traits within the players, his communication, not just with the receivers, tight ends, running backs, but with the offensive line. He's been a good addition for us."

The veteran field general might only be in New York for one season, but he will be looking to make his presence felt in that short time.
