Report: Steelers Sniffing A Trey Palmer Trade

![](https://www.joebucsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/TreyPalmerright.png)Joe finds this report somewhat funny considering who calls plays for the Steelers and the presence of Scotty Miller on the Pittsburgh roster.

A seemingly legit Steelers outlet, Steelers now, [claimed confirmation](https://steelersnow.com/steelers-show-interest-in-speedy-buccaneers-receiver/) Friday of Pittsburgh’s “interest” in Trey Palmer, the third-year Bucs receiver. Palmer was buried on the bench last season after 39 catches as a rookie.

The original report came from Zachary Smith, a Steelers Now co-host on YouTube.

Pittsburgh is hurting for receiver talent. They traded for D.K Metcalf in March and then dealt George Pickens to the Cowboys in May. That may not turn out to be much of an upgrade, and receiver talent in Pittsburgh, i thin after Metcalf.

Miller, a Bucs Super Bowl-season hero, had five catches for Pittsburgh last season. He spent the 2023 season with the Falcons playing for playcaller Artie Smith, who is now the Steelers’ offensive coordinator.

Smith is known for his plodding, run-first offense and a fascination for Marcus Mariota. Pittsburgh only scored more than 20 points in seven games last year, including the postseason.

Joe would have no issue trading Palmer, though Joe would have no problem keeping him. Palmer was unimpressive as a punt returner last season and he’s never been sync with Baker Mayfield on deep balls.

Still, 39 catches as a rookie (in 2023) with impressive speed means Palmer has a lot of potential. He just turned 24 years old.
