Phoenix Suns' Head Coaching Search Gets Major Update on Monday

It is set to be an offseason full of change for the Phoenix Suns as they failed to even come close to meeting expectations during the season.

Phoenix finished the season 11th in the Western Conference standings with an abysmal 36-46 record, missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2019-20 campaign.

Now the Suns face a ton of crucial decisions this offseason regarding their roster, specifically about their star trio of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.

Despite this, Phoenix also has a major decision to make regarding their head coaching spot after they fired Mike Budenholzer after the season and their search for a new head coach received a major update on Monday.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Suns have narrowed their head coaching search to two finalists, Johnnie Bryant and Jordan Ott, both of whom are from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Charania also reported that Suns owner Mat Ishbia will meet with both of them in Michigan this week with a potential decision coming as soon as the end of the week.

Suns insider John Gambadoro also reported that Phoenix will have a decision regarding their next head coach by the end of the week.

This is massive news for the Suns as they are closing in on hiring the next head coach of their franchise, who will try and step in and turn their franchise around.

Of course, the Suns have struggled over the past few seasons as their big three have failed to make the franchise into a championship contender and now either Bryant or Ott will be in charge, along with general manager Brian Gregory, to help turn Phoenix back into a contender.

Their new head coach could also be a crucial decision regarding if Durant remains in Phoenix or if they decide to move both him and Beal this offseason to rebuild around Booker.

Either way, it appears Phoenix is extremely close to hiring their new head coach and their decision could come by the end of the week.
