His performances have propelled Sporting to domestic success and captured the attention of Europe’s elite.
Gyokeres arrived from Coventry City in July 2023 for €24 million, and his rapid rise has been nothing short of remarkable.
His 39 Liga Portugal goals in 2024/25 made him the top scorer in all of Europe’s major leagues.
Manchester United’s interest in the striker has been known, with Ruben Amorim already aware of Gyokeres’ characteristics.
With interest building throughout the season, Record Portugal now reports that a Spanish club have entered the race to sign him.
Atletico Madrid in race for Viktor Gyokeres with Diego Simeone keen
Atletico Madrid have made Gyokeres a top priority as they look to overhaul their frontline this summer.
Diego Simeone is determined to bring in a marquee striker, and Gyokeres fits the bill.
The club are set to benefit from increased revenue through Champions League qualification and new sponsorship deals, which could help fund a move potentially exceeding €65 million (£55m/$74m).
While Antoine Griezmann recently extended his contract until 2027 and remains central to Simeone’s plans, the rest of Atletico’s attack is likely to be reshaped.
Gyokeres is viewed as the perfect focal point for this rebuild.
The striker was seen attending the Champions League final at the Allianz Arena alongside his agent and Sporting president Frederico Varandas.
Although, Record insist he’s taking his time in choosing his next move.

Gyokeres is under contract until 2028 and has a hefty €100 million (£84m/$114m) release clause, giving Sporting CP a strong hand in negotiations.
Yet the player’s decision won’t come down to finances alone.
The report adds that Gyokeres prioritises a project offering regular Champions League football and domestic title contention.
Thus, making Atletico Madrid, Arsenal, and Chelsea his leading options.
Arsenal in fact, have already made a €70m bid in aim of acquiring his services before others swoop in.
With Gyokeres’ exit all but expected, Sporting have already begun planning for the future.
For now, Gyokeres remains undecided, carefully evaluating his next step as he seeks a platform to chase major European honours.
