His Champions League debut campaign yielded six goals in nine appearances, with the remarkable achievement of being named man of the match in five of his first nine UEFA Champions League outings.

Wirtz is viewed as the creative force Liverpool need, especially as the club looks to add attacking invention to replace the influence of Trent Alexander-Arnold in advanced areas.

Liverpool are desperate to sign him and were willing to include a player to the deal that will bring Wirtz to the club.

First team stars Harvey Elliott and Jarell Quansah were reported to be options Bayer Leverkusen were considering in the deal.

However, the latest report from Sky Germany is that Elliott is no longer an option for Leverkusen.

According to the report, the Bundesliga side no longer consider ‘Elliott an option’ for a summer transfer.

However, Quansah to Leverkusen remains a possibility this summer, with the young defender’s likely to be part of the deal that will bring Wirtz to Liverpool.

Throughout the 2023–24 season, he appeared 53 times across all competitions, netting 4 goals and assisting 11.

However, Elliott started just one Premier League match, sparking questions about his long-term role at Anfield.

Similarly, 22-year-old defender Jarell Quansah is a promising talent.

After spending time on loan at Bristol Rovers, he returned to Liverpool and made his first-team debut in August 2023.

Over the 2023–24 season, Quansah played in 34 games, scoring 3 goals and contributing 3 assists.

He was part of the Liverpool squad that secured the 2023/24 EFL Cup and earned a spot in England’s provisional squad for Euro 2024.

However, he failed to hit the heights of his debut season, playing 25 times, most of which came as a substitute.
