14-assist wonderkid got taste of Man Utd action, pre-season could shape his 2025-26

Manchester United are looking ahead to the transfer window before arguably the most important season since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement begins but the post-season tour could be an important moment in their history.

Ruben Amorim had to take his Manchester United side to Hong Kong and Malaysia at the end of a disastrous season, in his own words.

Not everything went well, as expected, since the players couldn’t be expected to give their all with such a short turnaround time.

However, one 14-assist wonderkid got his first taste of Man Utd action and after impressing, could be set for a crucial pre-season ahead of 2025/26.

Man Utd have a gem in Tyler Fletcher

It is well-known by now that Man Utd’s senior team might not be in a good spot, but their academy structure is thriving and one of the best in England.

There are the usual suspects who dominate the headlines, the likes of Shea Lacey, Godwill Kukonki, Sekou Kone, and more, but Tyler Fletcher stood out on the post-season tour.

Fletcher’s case is unique because he flies under the radar in comparison to his twin brother, Jack Fletcher, who’s had a breakout season.

However, Tyler Fletcher has impressed many with his eye for a pass, and his assist numbers despite playing as a deeper midfielder speak volumes about his style of play.

In 32 games across all competitions, Fletcher has scored 4 and assisted 14, including two goals and two assists in six games while playing a level above for the U21s.

Fletcher has received Travis Binnion’s endorsement as well and the pre-season before 2025/26 is shaping up to be a crucial one for him.

Tyler Fletcher’s crucial 2025/26 and Ruben Amorim’s plans

Amorim has been praising the youth prospects for a while now and even namechecked the likes of Jim Thwaites after the win against Hong Kong.

It is poetic that Fletcher flew under the radar even then, but if he continues his level of performance, he’ll make himself difficult to ignore.

United have a clear need for a progressor of the ball from deeper midfield, either through carrying or passing, and Fletcher fits perfectly in the latter category.

His ability to play line-breaking passes and make ghosting runs from deep suits Amorim’s team perfectly as one of the two deeper midfielders.

The pre-season will be crucial for him to make a mark and shine as United’s squad goes through a rebuild.

If the likes of Casemiro follow Christian Eriksen out of the exit door, Amorim should look to supplement the senior team with players like Tyler Fletcher, while seeking out proven quality at urgent positions of need, like a striker.
