Man United are keen to add a striker to their ranks this summer to go alongside their signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, which they secured last week.
The Red Devils were one of the lowest-scoring teams in the Premier League last season, meaning that Ruben Amorim is prioritising moves for attacking players, with Cunha already added.
He will likely bring in a number nine too this summer to add more goals, and they have been linked to several names, including Viktor Gyokeres, Liam Delap and Victor Osimhen - they should step up their pursuit for one of these three.
Man United need to move for Gyokeres
Recent reports have suggested that Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres will likely either move to Man United or Arsenal this summer, with the Gunners the previous front-runners to add the Sweden international.
However, Arsenal are reportedly in talks with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko over a deal, which could leave United free to go after Gyokeres, something that they should prioritise as soon as possible.
They can’t offer Champions League football or major financial incentives, however, they do have the lure of Ruben Amorim, who previously managed Gyokeres as Sporting CP before he came to Old Trafford.
Amorim signed Gyokeres at the Portuguese club and developed a close relationship with him. Seeing as Arsenal look to be going after Sesko, United simply must come in quickly with a move for Gyokeres to try and tempt him to Old Trafford before any risk of the Gunners changing their mind and going after him.
Gyokeres has been one of if not the best, goal scorer in Europe this season, netting 54 goals in 52 games for Sporting CP. He also contributed 13 assists for the Portuguese side, a quality attacking presence that the Red Devils are in desperate need of.
Gyokeres provides Delap alternative
It wasn’t only Arsenal that were also linked with Gyokeres as Chelsea were reportedly keen too. However, it seems that they have decided to go after Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap instead.
United were also targeting a move for Delap, who has a £30m release clause, however, after they failed to secure Champions League football, it looks as though they have lost out to Chelsea.
But assuming Chelsea do get a deal across the line for the 22-year-old, it would mean that they are one less team that could challenge United to sign Gyokeres. With that in mind, United need to act fast to secure themselves one of the best number nines around which Arsenal and Chelsea seem to be missing out on.
It could give them a huge boost heading into next season over their rivals, something that United are desperate for after what has been one of the worst seasons in the club’s history.
