It's no secret Liverpool have made Julian Alvarez their primary target for the no.9 position.
Anfield Watch exclusively revealed that the Reds would be ready to break their transfer record to sign the Argentine, who Richard Hughes tried to bring to the club last summer as well.

It does feel like a difficult deal to pull off. Alvarez has only been at Atletico Madrid for less than 12 months. He's clearly one of their prized assets, and they won't want to part ways with him on the cheap.
But at the same time, every player has a price, even someone like Alvarez. And stranger things have happened.
Just take Robbie Keane for example. He arrived at Liverpool with a lot of hype and left the club after just six months.
There are a lot of things that tie Alvarez to Anfield as well. One of his closest friends in football is Julian Alvarez, so there's the attraction of being able to play with him.
It's also understood Alvarez has a great relationship with Liverpool's South American scouts.

Obviously, he's the perfect player as well for what Liverpool are trying to build. Arne Slot's side need a goal-scorer and a facilitator - Alvarez is both.
He's a very effective finisher who gets more than 50% of his shots on target and averaged a 27% goal conversion rate this season.
At the same time, Alvarez creates chances, links up well with his teammates and he can drop in to play a bit further.
Not to mention he runs a lot out of possession, and he's very good at applying pressure to opposition defenders.
Essentially, he's everything Slot could dream of as a no.9. But the question remains, is he actually available?
Well based on a report from Portugal he might just be.
According to Record, Viktor Gyokeres has become the no.1 target for Atletico Madrid in the transfer window this summer.
Gyokeres is reportedly at the top of the list of targets with the report claiming that the potential departures of Alvarez, Alexander Sorloth and Angel Correa expected to open up space for the Swede to arrive in Madrid.
This is a very interesting claim from the Portuguese outlet. The fact that Atletico Madrid are considering Gyokeres and spending big money on him too, considering he's one of the most sought after forwards in Europe right now, definitely opens the door to them considering the sale of Alvarez.
In their current system, it's moot whether the two of them could play together in the same line-up. We can't see one of them dropping to the bench either.
The only way Gyokeres coming to Atletico would make sense is if Alvarez was expected to leave.

That's why it's worth keeping an eye on the Argentine's movements this summer. Liverpool certainly shouldn't give up the race just yet.
