Rio Ferdinand has singled out three Manchester United players who could be sold in the summer after the arrival of Matheus Cunha in Ruben Amorim’s squad.
Ruben Amorim is a big admirer of Matheus Cunha and the 26-year-old Brazilian attacker had been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in 2025.
Manchester United completed the transfer of Cunha from Wolves after the Red Devils agreed to pay out the Brazilian forward’s £62.5m release clause.
Cunha will put pen to paper on a five-year contract with United and the former Wolves star is Amorim’s first major signing of the summer transfer window.
The Brazil international will offer a versatile attacking option for Amorim’s tactical system for United after Cunha’s superb season with Wolves.
Cunha netted an impressive 17 times and picked up six assists in 36 matches across all competitions in the 2024-25 season for Premier League side Wolves.

Rio Ferdinand reacted to Matheus Cunha’s Man Utd transfer and picked out players in Ruben Amorim’s squad at Old Trafford
Manchester United’s spending in the summer transfer window could be limited due to the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) that are in place.
The Red Devils finished in 15th place in the Premier League table last season and United failed to secure European football for the 2025-26 season at Old Trafford.
Rio Ferdinand admitted that Matheus Cunha’s arrival could cast uncertainty around the futures of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said: “The only thing I would say in this window is that £60m in this window, it will remain to be seen what type of work gets done when you’re spending a big chunk like that.
“As much as I’m happy with it, it means [there] are going to be some going out of the door and it means there’s going to be somebody like Garnacho or Kobbie Mainoo… and Marcus Rashford.
“They will be the players that will be going, I think, so when you look at it, it’s a lot of money.
“But where are you going to get players that can come and affect your first-team for that type of money?”

What is next for Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo at Man Utd after Matheus Cunha’s transfer from Wolves?
Marcus Rashford is widely tipped to leave Old Trafford in the summer transfer window after spending the second half of the season on loan at Aston Villa.
The 27-year-old England international lost his place in the starting XI under Ruben Amorim and Rashford has been linked with Barcelona in recent weeks.
Alejandro Garnacho’s future has also been plunged into doubt after the 20-year-old Spain-born attacker’s comments following United’s 2025 Europa League final defeat.
Kobbie Mainoo is under contract with United until 2027 and the 20-year-old England international has been linked with Chelsea amid discussions around a new deal.
The sale of Mainoo, Garnacho or Rashford would bring pure profit to United for the existing PSR rules, with all three players coming through the United youth academy.
