Florian Wirtz makes Liverpool jersey request

Florian Wirtz has reportedly made a request about the jersey number he wants on his Liverpool shirt when he signs.

Liverpool’s interest in the German international has recently been one of the major stories on the back pages of newspapers across England and Germany.

As has been widely reported, the Reds are leading the race for the 22-year-old’s signature, ahead of Bayern Munich and Manchester City, who have since given up interest in the race.

Wirtz wants to come to Liverpool, and Liverpool, on their part, are doing everything they can to get him.

The Reds have escalated efforts to sign the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, submitting their first official bid exceeding €100 million (£84 million) as negotiations accelerate.

They also submitted a second proposal after the first was rejected by Leverkusen, who are said to be keen on getting a premium for their star player. The Bundesliga side are also open to getting a Liverpool player plus cash for Wirtz.

Jarell Quansah and Harvey Elliott were touted as possible players who could be added to the deal. Elliott has since been removed from any move to Leverkusen, but there is a strong positive feeling that a deal will be struck soon.

While negotiations between Liverpool and Leverkusen continue, Wirtz has made a request about the possible jersey number he would love to wear when he signs.

GIVEMESPORT had earlier reported that Wirtz would wear the No. 27 jersey at Liverpool, given that Alexis Mac Allister currently wears his coveted No. 10 shirt at Liverpool.

However, a fresh report from Sky Germany has revealed that the German has made a plea to be handed the No. 10 jersey should his anticipated transfer from Bayer Leverkusen materialise.

“As Sky learned, Wirtz wants the number 10 jersey. Alexis Mac Allister currently wears it,” the report read.

Wirtz currently wears the No. 10 at Leverkusen, and it remains to be seen if Mac Allister will be willing to vacate his shirt number for the German.

Should the No. 10 prove to far for Wirtz, the 2-year-old may revert to the N0. 27 he initially wore upon breaking into Leverkusen’s first team in 2020.

The No. 27 holds personal significance for Wirtz, having been his debut senior squad number before he transitioned to No. 10 in 2023.

At Liverpool, this number became available after Darwin Nunez vacated it to take the No. 9 shirt, also in 2023.

Historically, Liverpool’s No. 27 has been worn sparingly, with mixed legacies.

Recent players include folk hero Divock Origi, whose career has come to an almost standstill at AC Milan,a

Alternative options, such as No. 17 or No. 24 (both worn by Wirtz for Germany), remain possibilities but are less likely due to current squad allocations.
