According to a report from BBC, Al-Hilal have entered the race for the services of Ibrahima Konate. The Saudi Pro League giants are ready to rival Champions League winners PSG in their pursuit of the Liverpool defensive sensation.
Konate hasn’t looked back since joining the Merseyside club from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021. He has gone from strength to strength and has established himself as one of the mainstays in the team.
The French international was ever-present in Arne Slot’s backline throughout the 2024/25 season and played a big part in their Premier League triumph. While he is an important part of the Dutch manager’s plans, his future has been up in the air for some time because of his contract situation.
Liverpool are set to undergo massive changes this summer. While the focus is on the big-name players who could arrive, there could be some significant departures and Konate is one of the names on that list.
He is set to enter the final year of his deal and the club are working hard to renew his deal. While talks are ongoing, nothing positive has come of it so far. If the Reds fail to convince him to put pen to paper on a new deal, they could look to sanction his departure this summer for the right price.
Al-Hilal and PSG could battle for Konate’s signature
Al-Hilal and PSG are two clubs are very keen on the signature of the 26-year-old and are closely monitoring his situation at the Merseyside club. They could pounce on any opportunity to sign Konate as they want to reinforce their backline.
PSG, who recently won their first-ever UCL title are looking for more quality at the back and consider him an ideal fit for their project. They want the best French players to be playing for them and Konate is certainly right up there with the very best.
While they are ready to try and lure him, Al-Hilal have entered the race for his signature could cause serious problems for PSG. The Saudi giants have some massive plans for the summer. They want more quality in their squad and feel Konate could be a great acquisition for the short as well as the long run.
Al-Hilal certainly have the financial strength to strike a deal with the Reds but it will be interesting to see if the 26-year-old is willing to leave Europe this early in his career.
