Manchester United are set to open formal talks with Brentford over a summer move for Bryan Mbeumo after the forward expressed his desire to join the Red Devils, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.

The 25-year-old Cameroon international enjoyed a brilliant 2024/25 campaign, netting 20 goals and providing nine assists in 42 appearances for the Bees. His outstanding form averaging a goal or assist every 123.3 minutes has seen him emerge as one of the Premier League’s most sought-after attacking talents.

With just one year remaining on his current contract at Brentford, though the club hold an option to extend it by a further 12 months, Mbeumo has attracted serious interest from several top clubs.

Arsenal have been closely monitoring the winger as Mikel Arteta looks to reinforce his wide options ahead of another title push and Champions League campaign. Newcastle United have also expressed strong interest but are said to be reluctant to meet Brentford’s £60 million valuation, viewing a £50 million fee as more reflective of his contract situation.

However, Manchester United appear ready to meet the Bees’ asking price, with Ornstein reporting that Mbeumo has prioritised a move to Old Trafford over other suitors.

Since arriving at Brentford from French side Troyes in 2019, Mbeumo has been instrumental in the club’s rise under Thomas Frank. He played a crucial role in their promotion to the Premier League and has since gone on to become a reliable goalscorer in England’s top flight. His tally now stands at 70 goals and 51 assists in 242 appearances for the West London side.

Mbeumo’s best season yet has seemingly come at the perfect time, with Manchester United keen to add attacking firepower this summer. Talks are expected to accelerate in the coming days as the Red Devils look to finalise a deal for one of the league’s most in-form forwards.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are continuing to explore other attacking targets, with several high-profile wingers on their radar. Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, Athletic Club’s Nico Williams, Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman, and Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens are all believed to be on the Gunners’ shortlist as they look to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.
