Former Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere is reportedly a frontrunner to become the next Plymouth Argyle manager, according toThe Sun. The 33-year-old is set for talks with the club this summer as the Pilgrims look to fill the vacancy left by Miron Muslic.
Plymouth are searching for a new head coach following Muslic’s shock departure to German side Schalke, just four months after being appointed. The club, recently relegated to League One, is keen to make a swift appointment as they aim to bounce back to the Championship.
Wilshere, who served as interim boss at Norwich City for the final two games of the 2024/25 season, is said to be interested in the role and is likely to accept the job if formally offered. He had taken over at Carrow Road after the sacking of Johannes Hoff Thorup but left the club when told he would not be considered for the position on a permanent basis.

Wilshere had previously worked as Arsenal’s Under-18s coach before joining Norwich’s first-team staff in October. His coaching journey has gathered pace in recent months, and the Plymouth job could represent his first full-time managerial post at senior level.

Plymouth’s turbulent season ended in relegation to League One, despite a brief improvement in form under Muslic. The damage had largely been done earlier in the campaign under Wayne Rooney, Wilshere’s former England teammate, whose tenure was marked by a disastrous seven-month spell that ended with his dismissal on December 31.
Muslic’s departure has left a bitter taste at Home Park. The club released a strongly worded statement expressing frustration over what they described as “broken promises” from the Austrian coach. Despite repeated assurances of his commitment, Muslic requested to speak with Schalke, citing a desire to be closer to his family after years on the road.
Muslic joined Plymouth in January on a three-and-a-half-year deal but exits after just four months in charge.
