David Ornstein claims Newcastle United's priority target Bryan Mbeumo has decided his next club

ยท 2 June 2025, 21:30

**Bryan Mbeumo has been reported many times by several outlets to be Newcastle United's number one transfer priority this summer.**

The Brentford winger was already high on Newcastle's list earlier in the season before jumping to the top of the pile in January with a view to a move this summer.

Mbeumo only has 12 months remaining on his Brentford deal, and the club are resigned to the fact that the Cameroon international is likely to move on this summer.

Newcastle were said to be confident in snapping up the 25-year-old despite interest from Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal.

Bryan Mbeumo wants Man United switch - WHAT IS GOING ON?

--------------------------------------------------------

That was until tonight, when [The Athletic's David Ornstein broke an exclusive](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6332515/2025/06/02/manchester-united-bryan-mbeumo-transfer/), claiming that Mbeumo had decided to join Manchester United.

Man United have already beaten Newcastle to Matheus Cunha and now look set to do the same with Bryan Mbeumo, and much like with Cunha, we absolutely can not understand the player's decision here.

I know we're biased towards Newcastle, and I know that we have a deep-seated dislike of Man United, but surely this doesn't make sense to anyone else either.

How is this happening again?

----------------------------

Manchester United finished 15th in the Premier League, their squad all play like they wish they were somewhere else, they missed out on Europe and their owner makes Mike Ashley look like a saint.

Why would anyone want to go there other than for the money? At what point does the prestige of being Manchester United wear off? They've been nothing like what they were under Sir Alex Ferguson since the day he left, and yet, because of his legacy, they still manage to attract players.

Also, didn't Mbeumo say he wanted Champions League football?

This isn't adding up at all, but if it is true, then Newcastle obviously dodged a bullet as Mbeumo is clearly a mercenary who is only in it for the money.

We can only hope that Man United's spending comes back to bite them, because if they miss out on Europe again next season, then they're going to be cutting it very fine when it comes to PSR.

Although, if that's the case, the Premier League will probably just look to change the rules.
