Man Utd lining up move to sign 28-goal striker,£40m deal could be finalised - report

Manchester United are poised to sign a new centre-forward during this summer’s transfer window.

The Red Devils were keen on landing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town last month, but the 22-year-old has decided to join Chelsea instead.

United now need to find a potential alternative. TalkSPORT claim that the club are considering a proposal for Al Hilal striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Mitrovic joined the Saudi Pro League giants from Fulham for £50 million two years ago and could return to the Premier League with a pay cut.

He is reportedly valued at around £40m.

Signing Mitrovic would be a backward step for United

The Serbia international has netted 68 goals from just 79 appearances in all competitions for Al Hilal. Out of those, 28 have come this campaign.

Despite his glowing statistics, United should stay away from an approach. Mitrovic will turn 31 in September and has not scored more than 14 goals in a single Premier League season.

The former Anderlecht star has been playing in a less intense and lower quality league and may struggle to find his feet on his return to English football.

Mitrovic earns a staggering £406,000 per week at Al Hilal. Even a 60 percent pay-cut would see him earn almost £163,000 on a weekly basis.

We believe United should consider a younger profile for the striker’s role, and signing Mitrovic would represent a step backwards for the club.

If the Red Devils are eyeing an experienced Premier League striker, they could be better off purchasing Jean-Philippe Mateta from Crystal Palace.

The 27-year-old could be signed for £40m or even less, with his contract expiring in June 2026.
