Packers waive receiver, open up roster spot

For the second time over the last week, the Green Bay Packers have waived a player with an injury designation. This time around, it’s receiver Jadon Janke, Tucker Kraft’s former college teammate, who was only a Packer for less than a month.

Last week, the Packers waived defensive end Jeremiah Martin with an injury designation. For what it’s worth, Martin was not seen participating in Green Bay’s media-open OTA practice last Tuesday, but Janke was. The waiving of Martin led to the signing of rookie receiver Sam Brown Jr., Matthew Golden’s former teammate at Houston, who actually outgained Golden when the duo was together.

Both Janke and Martin will probably receive injury settlements once they recover from the injuries that led to them being waived. Martin has already cleared waivers and reverted to the Packers’ injured reserve. Janke will have to wait until at least tomorrow to land on Green Bay’s injured reserve, as he needs to pass through the NFL’s waiver process.

At this point, the Packers have an open roster spot on their offseason roster, though. It’s uncertain if they’ll use that extra space to sign another receiver, as Brown has already been added to the mix at the position.
