Al-Hilal have suffered a major setback in their bid to sign Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes, who has been rumoured to join the Saudi Pro League for weeks.
Fernandes has starred in United’s team this season contributing double figures in goal contributions in both the Premier League and Europa League with his goal contribution figures in both leagues standing at 18 and 11.
The Saudi Pro League side expressed their interest in Fernandes several weeks ago with the side willing to do whatever it takes for both Manchester United and Bruno Fernandes to agree to the deal and to allow the midfielder to join the club.
However, there is deadlines that are in place with the Saudi Arabian side wanting Fernandes to join the club before the FIFA Club World Cup which is due to start in less than 2 weeks time.
To add to this, Al-Hilal at currently without a manager following the departure of their previous manager Jorge Jesus.
A Major Setback For Al-Hilal
At first, it was reported that Fernandes was open to the move and project that Al-Hilal were proposing but there has been a major setback in Al-Hilal’s bid for the midfielder according to reports.
This comes because Bruno Fernandes’ family are not fully convinced by the move to Al-Hilal which would involve moving from England to Saudi Arabia.
This has slowed the process down and made it less likely that Fernandes will be able to join the club in time to particpate in the Club World Cup. Without the Portuguese international’s contribution during the tournament, the Saudi side may be less likely to win the tournament.
Fernandes’ proposed move comes in a time of change within Manchester United with transfer rumours of players coming in and moving out swirling in the Old Trafford air.
This update probes a very important question – will the midfielder stay at United or will he join Al-Hilal? This is a question only time will solve but what is for sure is that the transfer is taking longer than Al-Hilal expected.
