How much Inter Milan are willing to pay for Rasmus Højlund after‘contact made’for Man Utd transfer

Inter Milan have opened talks with Rasmus Højlund over a potential summer transfer and the amount they are willing to pay Manchester United has been revealed.

One of Manchester United’s major issues last season was the lack of consistent goal scorers, with Rasmus Højlund struggling to lead the line effectively.

Højlund, who joined from Atalanta in the summer of 2023, was thrust into the role of first-choice striker when he arrived, largely due to Anthony Martial’s injury troubles.

After netting 16 goals across all competitions in that season, many United fans hoped the Danish forward would elevate his game this year. However, instead of progressing, he regressed heavily.

The form of the striker hit rock bottom during periods of the campaign, including right at the end, and his days at Old Trafford look numbered.

Inter make contact with Højlund’s representatives

It has been well reported for several months that Italian clubs have been eyeing a move for Højlund, with there being a belief that he could still thrive in the Serie A despite his struggles in England.

Now that the transfer window is open, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Inter Milan have opened talks to sign the 22-year-old, with him being one of the ‘main options’ on their shortlist.

“Understand Inter have made contact with Rasmus Højlund’s camp in the recent days as talks started for the Danish striker,” Romano wrote on Instagram.

“As exclusively revealed two days ago, Højlund is one of the main options on Inter shortlist with Parma’s Bonny and more.”

United would likely be open to selling the striker as long as they receive a good deal but they are not in a good bargaining position due to his dire form last season.

How much Inter are willing to pay for Højlund

Inter Milan have some strong options up front in Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, which means that they are not in a desperate position. Højlund would likely become depth for their squad.

According to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian outfit would only be willing to spend around £33.7 million on an extra striker in their squad, with Højlund as the ‘favourite’ option.

United spent over £70 million to sign him just two years ago and would require around £43 million to avoid making a loss on him should he leave this summer.

But that figure is simply unrealistic after the season he just had – perhaps United could look at including performance-based add-ons in an exit to reach that total.

Another potential solution, which we’ve seen with other players in the last couple of years, is that United loan him out in the hope that he raises his value away from Old Trafford. That is what the likes of Jadon Sancho, Antony and Marcus Rashford have done.
