Reporter shares update on Stefon Diggs-Patriots situation

Stefon Diggs has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons this offseason, but it doesn’t look like that will cost him his roster spot with the New England Patriots.

The Patriots have no plans to release the four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Diggs, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported on Monday. Rapoport adds that New England has “high hopes” for Diggs and notes it was a positive that Diggs recently showed up to OTAs.

Diggs, 31, signed with the Patriots on a three-year, $63.5 million contract in March. But since then, Diggs has seemingly been nothing but bad news for New England.

Last week, a video of Diggs flashing a pink substance while partying on a boat drew scrutiny. The viral video even prompted an unhappy response from Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.

Then a few days later, a report emerged suggesting that Diggs and the Patriots were having other issues simmering behind the scenes as well. That led to speculation that New England could potentially have a way to get out of Diggs’ big contract.

But working in the former NFL receiving yards leader Diggs’ favor is that he is still the best and most proven wide receiver on the Patriots roster right now. While there are still some lingering questions about how Diggs will look physically after the torn right ACL that he suffered last October as a member of the Houston Texans, the veteran wideout’s production on the field will ultimately be what matters most to New England.
