Pittsburgh Steelers to host joint practice at training camp

The Pittsburgh Steelers will host a joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at training camp this August, Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said to Pewter Report.

The Steelers host the Buccaneers for a preseason game on August 16 at 7 p.m. That means the joint practice will either take place in Latrobe two days before or occur just like last season in Acrisure Stadium.

The Steelers had a joint practice in 2024 with the Buffalo Bills before their preseason game around the same timeframe. It will be the Steelers’ second straight year with a joint practice.

This is new for the Steelers, as they went without a joint practice for multiple years. Before that, Pittsburgh had not held a joint practice at its training camp since 2018, when the Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh held a series of practices together. Buffalo and Pittsburgh organized a joint practice together in 2014. In the past, head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Omar Khan appeared open to joint practice possibilities.

Around the league, joint practices can become hostile to the point where they are called off early, and each team splits up for their practice. The Steelers and Bills, however, had a cordial practice last year, and the Steelers hope they can do the same again this year.
