Liverpool could have a major decision to make if they go on to complete the signing of Florian Wirtz. The Bayer Leverkusen star has been identified as a priority target for the Reds going into the summer transfer window.
Last week saw Liverpool submit a club-record £109million bid to try and sign Wirtz from Leverkusen, which was subsequently rejected by the Bundesliga outfit. Talks remain ongoing between the two clubs as the Reds still look to strike a deal with Leverkusen to bring the Germany international to Anfield.
Wirtz is currently with the Germany national team just days after being named the German Footballers' Union (VDV) Player of the Year in the Bundesliga for last season. The playmaker scored 16 goals and provided 15 assists from midfield last term and was also linked with Bayern Munich and Manchester City before Liverpool became the favourites to agree a deal.

Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has provided an update on Liverpool's continued interest in signing Wirtz. It has been reported on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Wirtz would want to wear the No.10 shirt if he was to complete a move to Anfield.
That number is currently worn by Alexis Mac Allister, who has held the number since his arrival from Brighton in the summer of 2023. Wirtz has also worn the No.23 and No.27 during his time at Leverkusen, as well as No.17 for Germany.
It remains to be seen if Liverpool would choose to accept this request to Wirtz, if the report turns out to be accurate, of course.
If that is the case, it would not be the first time that an existing member of the squad has changed their number to accommodate a new signing.
In 2017, Roberto Firmino changed his squad number following the arrival of Mohamed Salah. Firmino had previously worn the No.11 for two years before switching to the No.9 after Salah moved to Anfield from Roma.
At present, Liverpool have the numbers 6, 12, 13, 15, 16, 22, 23, 24, 25 and 27 through to 37 available to new signings this summer.
