Chelsea ‘step up’ efforts to sign Ekitike despite concerns over transfer fee — reports

Chelsea are certainly keeping busy in these opening first few days of the 2025 summer transfer window, having already welcomed one player (Dário Essugo) and about to welcome another (Liam Delap), but apparently still only just getting started.

Rumors abound of incoming wingers, potentially Jamie Gittens of Borussia Dortmund, but according to various other reports, we’re also “accelerating” in our pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. L’Equipe claim that we have “stepped up our efforts in recent hours” while earlier in the day (Monday), reports from Germany claimed that we’ve held additional talks with Frankfurt.

Of course, talks are just talks and they may not amount to anything in the end. Florian Plettenberg’s report makes it fairly clear that Frankfurt are looking for a nine-figure sum in any deal for the 22-year-old, and that’s an amount that we had deemed “too expensive” before, as per The Guardian (presumably because it is too expensive). That stance could also change of course depending on other movements, though unless we’re also shopping Nicolas Jackson around, it’s hard to see why we’d need — or more specifically, how we would fit in — another striker at the moment.

Chelsea remain very active in the race for Hugo #Ekitike. Further talks have taken place, but more teams are showing interest in him. #CFC

Eintracht Frankfurt are NOT ruling out the possibility of him leaving in the current transfer window.
