Manchester United are eyeing further improvements to their forward line after Matheus Cunha
Cunha scored 15 goals and provided six assists in 33 Premier League appearances and will help add further threat to United’s attack next season. The Red Devils lacked goals last term, which played a big role in their measly 15th-place finish in the top flight.
Amorim wants to add a striker to his squad ahead of next season and a player for in behind the striker. Manchester World understands there is genuine interest in Bryan Mbeumo, who was nominated for the Premier League Player of the Season, after an impressive campaign with Brentford. Eberechi Eze who has won the FA Cup with Crystal Palace is another target.
The latter has a release clause of around £68m in his contract at Selhurst Park while Mbeumo is likely to cost between £50m-£60m.
Fabrizio Romano claims Man Utd have competition to sign Bryan Mbeumo
United are not the only Premier League side who are looking at a potential move for Mbeumo this summer. That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who says the Red Devils face competition from both Arsenal and Newcastle United.
That could make a move tough for the Old Trafford club as both the Gunners and the Magpies will be playing Champions League football next season, while United have missed out on European football altogether.
He said on his YouTube channel: “Manchester United have several players they appreciate. Let me clarify once again that Bryan Mbeumo at Brentford is a player they like. So for sure, he remains on the list.
“But they know that they are not alone, there are several clubs interested - Newcastle, Arsenal, many clubs. So let me say that Man United, Newcastle, Arsenal are all clubs monitoring the player.
“Let's see what's going to happen there for Bryan Mbeumo. But for sure, an interesting situation to follow.”
Bryan Mbeumo hailed by Thomas Frank for his contributions
Mbeumo has an impressive 70 goals and 51 assists in 242 games for Brentford. Frank said of his player in April: “Bryan is the penalty taker, unbelievable at penalties, assists, work ethic, an unbelievable player."
Frank does admit that Mbeumo can leave Brentford this summer but only for big money. He said: "It is clear that if he is to be sold, it must be for a nice, nice amount. It is a lot. Mucho. Really a lot.
"Then it is clear that it is impossible to replace him one for one. It cannot be done. There is a reason why he costs x number of million pounds, and we do not have x number of million pounds to buy for.
"I would say that I would be surprised if a lot of big clubs don’t look at him. I would be surprised with what he has to offer. How many wingers score 20 goals for a mid-table club? And then with seven assists plus his work ethic. And his character. All these things mean that he has a lot, so he is a good player."
