Harvey Elliott has already dropped a couple of hints that he could leave Liverpool this summer amid suggestions he could be included as part of a deal for Florian Wirtz.
The Reds are still working on an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen to sign the German international. Two offers already look to have been rejected, with Liverpool not yet reaching the 2024 Bundesliga champion’s valuation.
It still seems likely that Wirtz will be heading to Anfield though, especially after Manchester City dropped out of the race and Bayern Munich seemingly admitted defeat. The question is whether a player will be moving in the opposite direction.
A player plus cash deal has been suggested in some reports, with Elliott and Jarell Quansah apparently of interest to Leverkusen. Other players may also provide options should Liverpool want to keep hold of the aforementioned duo.
Elliott though would appear to fit the bill in terms of a straight swap for Wirtz, and given he struggled for game time under Arne Slot during the 2024/25 campaign, it’s likely his minutes would suffer even more if the German arrived at Anfield.
And Elliott himself has already discussed the possibility of him leaving Liverpool this summer, with his recent comments suggesting he might well have to look elsewhere.

"It's been hard with how much I've played," Elliott said after scoring in the penultimate game of the season at Brighton. "I've tried as hard as I could and whatever happens, happens.
"It's about what's best for my career. It's about reflecting and seeing what I can do. I'm here at the moment and I'm focusing on the final game."
Those comments came less than a month after Elliott first admitted he could end up leaving Liverpool this summer. Given the choice though, it seems he doesn’t want to move away from Anfield.
“You never know what is going to happen around the corner,” Elliott told the Liverpool Echo back in April.

“If I had it my way, that would be here, I would play each and every game here and stay here for the rest of my career but it all depends on managers, the people above and as I said you don't know what could happen but as far as I am aware I am here, here to stay and this is the club I want to be at.
"Hopefully I am still here to be honest. It is the best place to be, the best club to be at and especially having the fans around us at the moment, I don't think there is a better place to be playing.”
According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool is “very optimistic” of reaching an agreement with Leverkusen for Wirtz soon.
Unless a player is included in the deal, the Bundesliga side is said to be demanding up to $172 million, which would smash Liverpool’s previous record transfer fee, as well as the Premier League’s.
