One of Nuno's top Nottingham Forest stars has just received some heartbreaking news

The dust is quietly settling on the 2024/25 campaign, and for Nottingham Forest, it’s a big chance to take stock of the season.

Forest ended a 30-year sabbatical from European competition by qualifying for the UEFA Conference League, and for a while, it looked as though the Champions League music would be playing in Nottingham.

That proved a bridge too far, however, and now Forest will aim to improve the squad for another assault on doing well in the Premier League next season.

Three Brazilian players are signing for Forest, and they should be welcomed nicely by a heavy contingent of South American players in place at the City Ground.

However, for one of those stars, some heartbreaking news has been dealt…

Nicolas Dominguez dealt huge Nottingham Forest blow

This is not good news, although given that Dominguez was heavily strapped after Forest lost to Chelsea, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the prognosis is poor.

It’s been claimed in Argentina that Dominguez will now be out of action for four months, after requiring surgery to repair damage to his meniscus ligament.

Dominguez was one of Nuno Espirito Santo’s top players last season, and ultimately, he will be sorely missed if he doesn’t make the start of the campaign.

The Argentine had just worked his way back into the national squad, such was the level of his performance, and this provides him – and Forest – with a real setback.

Forest might sign a new central midfielder

With Danilo heading to Lyon and Dominguez now injured, this feels like a bit of a given from a Forest perspective when it comes to the transfer market.

Elliot Anderson was a mainstay last season, whilst Ibrahim Sangare came good at the end, but in reserve, that only leaves Ryan Yates, which represents a problem.

Depth in midfield all of a sudden looks considerably weaker, and with that in mind, a dip into the transfer market might well be on the cards in the coming weeks.

Dominguez is going to need some time to get up to speed after this injury, and as a result, it would now be of no surprise if the club signed a midfielder this summer.
