Report: Newcastle United stunned as Bryan Mbeumo makes shocking request in talks

Newcastle United suddenly appear set to miss out on Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United.

The Magpies were hoping to strike a deal for the 25-year-old, with Newcastle holding talks with Bryan Mbeumo’s representatives.

There were even suggestions that Mbeumo was open to joining Newcastle United, as Eddie Howe got set to bolster his forward line.

However, it would appear that the Brentford forward is even more open to joining Manchester United.

According to the Athletic’s David Ornstein, Mbeumo wants to sign for the Red Devils this summer.

Newcastle fans are gutted about Mbeumo’s decision, with the Magpies looking likely to miss out on another major deal. Toon fans have seen Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap pass them by, and now Mbeumo seems set to as well.

Bryan Mbeumo’s wage demands

There is frustration and confusion on Tyneside. It is difficult to understand how Mbeumo can favour Man United, despite Newcastle United having a much more stable project plus the lure of Champions League football.

One of the issues could be wages.

According to the Chronicle, Mbeumo’s representatives told interested parties such as Newcastle United that the Cameroon international wants wages in excess of £180,000-a-week.

They claim that the winger wants to quadruple his wages to leave Brentford, with his demands raising eyebrows at St James’ Park.

Wage issues persist at Newcastle United

This comes just days after a claim over how much Matheus Cunha will earn at Man United, with the Brazilian set to earn £200,000-a-week.

Those kinds of figures are more than what Newcastle’s highest earner gets, with Bruno Guimaraes on £160,000-a-week.

The Magpies are hoping to change their highest earner, with Alexander Isak set for contract talks.

Geordie Boot Boys understand that Newcastle want Isak to be their highest earner, but an offer of at least £200,000-a-week will likely be required to satisfy the Swedish striker’s demands.
