Talks over a transfer had accelerated over the past week with Fernandes’s agent Miguel Pinho holding talks in the Four Seasons hotel in Riyadh, which have led to Al-Hilal believing there was a genuine possibility of a deal.
But Fernandes has rejected the chance to move to Saudi Arabia.
The 30-year-old has made it clear he wants to continue playing at the top level in Europe.
Fernandes now looks set to stay at Manchester United, in what is a major boost to Ruben Amorim ahead of next season.
Amorim could have used the incoming money to reshape his squad, but he always insisted he wanted the player to stay .
