Five players Man United should sign with the Premier League transfer window officially open -…

After Manchester United finished 15th in their worst-ever Premier League finish, it’s never been more critical for the club to bring in the right players.

The Premier League transfer window is now officially open, so Man United must move quickly and decisively if they’re to recruit the talent Ruben Amorim needs.

The tune – ‘he’ll bring the glory days again’ – is regularly belted out by the Stretford End faithful about Amorim, but without a good transfer window, this could fizzle out to be yet another failed dream, like the last decade before him.

Since his arrival in November, Amorim has been firm and resilient in his adoption of the 3-4-2-1 formation.

This threw a big spanner in the works at United, with the team built around former manager Erik ten Hag’s 4-2-3-1 system.

To cater to this, INEOS need to bring in players who can fit the different expectations this shake-up brings.

Patrick Dorgu was signed in January as a left-wing back to deal with United’s lack of explosiveness on that flank and he has been one of United’s more impressive players since arriving.

This creates hope for fans that if Amorim gets his players, then the system will finally start to blossom.

Wolves star Matheus Cunha is the next to join United, with the expectation of him playing in one of the 10s.

But this is only the beginning, and United need a complete overhaul if they’re to think about Champions League football again.

So here are five players United should sign in this summer transfer window.

Viktor Gyökeres

INEOS should do everything they can to bring the goal-scoring machine to Old Trafford.

Gyökeres is the traditional centre forward United so desperately crave. His 54 goals in 52 appearances this campaign is simply staggering.

Under Amorim, United’s biggest problem has been goals, and the arrival of the Swede could solve that.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Gyökeres would be available for €65m or just shy of £55m, which is a steal for a player of his quality.

Attracting Gyökeres could be difficult, though, without European football after United’s Europa League final defeat.

Bryan Mbuemo

To feed and aid Gyökeres, Bryan Mbuemo would be a fantastic signing. The Brentford star would fit in as one of the 10s alongside Cunha.

His 20 goals and eight assists in the last Premier League campaign make him a terrific goal threat, which would do wonders for Amorim’s system.

Crucially, he can also create, which is something a striker like Gyökeres could thrive off.

United face stark competition from Newcastle and Arsenal, though, so they could struggle to pull off this move unless they move quickly.

Tyler Dibling

If the Red Devils can’t secure the Mbuemo signing, Tyler Dibling could be a fantastic back-up option.

The Southampton youngster has caught the eye of England’s top clubs after a great year on the south coast.

Dibling is a terrific dribbler who is a defender’s nightmare. While raw, he has the talent to be a star in one of the 10 positions for United.

Tottenham and Man City also want Dibling, but his reported £100m transfer fee is a huge stumbling block for the Red Devils, who, without European football, will be low on funds.

Éderson

With Casemiro getting no younger and Manuel Ugarte yet to nail down his spot in the team, Éderson could be a fantastic signing for United.

The 25-year-old midfielder is a box-to-box style player who loves to get on the ball and move it forward. This is something United lack with neither Casemiro nor Ugarte a natural ball-playing midfielder.

In the last year, Éderson averaged 6.75 progressive passes per 90 (FBref). This compared to Ugarte’s 2.93 and Casemiro’s 5.72.

With £62.5m already spent on Cunha and Amorim prioritising forwards, the potential signing of Éderson would likely be later in the window, and United may not have the funds to do it by then.

Vanja Milinković-Savić

It’s been another hit-and-miss campaign for Andre Onana.

This has led to Paul Scholes criticising Onana, among many other fans unhappy with their goalkeeper. Such form may force United to bring in a new number one.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Vanja Milinković-Savić is on United’s shopping list.

The Serbian goalkeeper was once on United’s books back in 2014, but he was released after failing to get a work permit.

11 years later, and United look to want to bring the six-foot-eight giant back.

With a reported release clause of around £17m, Milinković-Savić, at just 28, is incredibly good value for money.
