Leeds United rival Brentford for £21m midfielder who can also play up front - Journalist

With the summer transfer window now open until the 10th June, Leeds United are being linked with players left and right from across Europe.

Leeds’ summer window has to go very well in order for next season to be something to enjoy in the Premier League, unlike what we’ve seen from the previous promoted sides.

Which means improving in a lot of positions in order to garner enough quality to win matches in the top flight and finish 17th or higher.

Leeds United in running for Getafe midfielder Christantus Uche alongside Brentford

With the departure of Joe Rothwell following the end of his loan from Bournemouth, Leeds appear somewhat light in midfield and will require additions over the coming weeks.

SER Journalist Jose David Palacio has now claimed that Leeds are interested in signing Getafe star Christantus Uche.

The 22-year-old is predominantly a midfielder, but this season has seen his action split between midfield and operating as a striker, scoring four and assisting seven in all competitions.

Christantus Uche – 2 goals & 5 assists in his last 10 La Liga games.

The 21-year-old Getafe box-to-box midfielder is having a superb season.

Clubs from France and Italy have enquired about signing Uche, but it is said that Leeds and Brentford from the Premier League are in pole position.

As for the price tag, Uche’s contract until 2028 holds a £21million release clause, but Getafe are willing to lower his valuation in order to seek an agreement.

Leeds United need midfield cover and physical presence as well

Uche stands at 6ft3in and has been a very solid operator in Getafe’s mid-table finish, in which they had the fourth-best defensive record in La Liga.

That sort of contribution is something Leeds are going to need next season in the Premier League, and the fact he’s capable of playing in midfield, attacking midfield and up front suggests a versatility we’d also benefit from.

Despite boasting a large frame, he’s confident with the ball at his feet as well, and if Leeds want to sting teams on the counter, willing carriers are a must.
