Manchester United are closing in on a deal to sign Udinese defender Oumar Solet.
Oumar Solet Set to Bolster United’s Backline After Cunha Move
Manchester United are looking to add one more new face this June. As per The Sun, Oumar Solet is likely arriving at the club from Udinese as a French centre-back. The move comes right on the heels after agreeing a £62.5 million deal for Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
Reports believe talks between the English and Italian side are going well. Solet will be great fit for the new manager Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.
The young 25-year-old centre-back has sent players into sliding tackles. And he has showed that he has the right man for defending metal and attacking finesse. He is under contract until 2027, but Utd is confident they can get him for the right price.
Amorim Sees Solet as Tactical Fit for His System
Oumar Solet’s numbers across Europe’s top leagues show he is more than just stopping goals. He ranks among the best in ball carries, successful dribbles, and even assists. He is exactly the kind of centre-back Amorim wants at the Old Trafford. His ability to push forward and help create plays makes him stand out from other options. That is especially in a system where defenders have to contribute in attack.
Meanwhile, Lisandro Martinez is recovering from a serious knee injury. And Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans are leaving the club this June. So, the Red Devils need someone who can step in and deliver right away for them. The Frenchman fits the bill both tactically and financially. The club plans to spend most of its transfer budget on upgrading the attack.
Still, a smart defensive signing like Solet could prove to be important. Now, United must be willing to bounce back stronger next season.
