Manchester United have offered a blow to Newcastle United, but there could still be a twist in the Bryan Mbeumo saga.
Despite Newcastle wanting to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, the feeling does not appear to be mutual.
News broke in the Athletic on Monday night that Mbeumo wants to join Manchester United, despite the Red Devils finishing 15th in the Premier League.
Newcastle fans are gutted about Mbeumo’s stance, but there are still no guarantees that Ruben Amorim’s side will have things all their own way.

How Brentford feel about Manchester United’s Bryan Mbeumo interest
While Mbeumo appears to have made it clear that he wants to move to Old Trafford, Brentford are yet to actually receive an approach from Man United.
That is according to the Telegraph, who report that Brentford are irritated by the deal seemingly being played out in public.
The report adds that Brentford have not had any contact with Man United over Mbeumo, and could end up asking for an inflated fee.
Given what has been reported about Mbeumo’s desire to move to Old Trafford, the Telegraph have been told by a source that the Red Devils will look ‘silly’ if they do not finalise a transfer.

Newcastle United forced to look for Bryan Mbeumo alternatives
Manchester United have made a rod for their own back. They are now in a position where they need to complete a deal for Mbeumo. If not, they will look rather foolish.
Brentford know this, and are in a strong enough financial position that they can drive the hardest bargain for their talisman.
As for Newcastle United, they are going to have to turn to their list of alternatives.
While Mbeumo to Manchester United is not a done deal, it is very apparent that the player wants to make the move.
That is a blow for the Magpies, but a deal may have been beyond Eddie Howe and co anyway.
That is due to Mbeumo’s wage demands, with Newcastle told to make him their highest-paid player ever.
It remains to be seen who the Magpies will prioritise in the aftermath of Mbeumo’s transfer preference emerging. Former target Noni Madueke is available at Chelsea, 12 months after Howe tried to bring him to St James’ Park.
