Leeds United are considering a move for veteran Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope as they prepare for life back in the Premier League, according to the Daily Mail.
The report states that Pope could become available if Newcastle complete a £30 million deal for Burnley’s James Trafford.
Leeds manager Daniel Farke is searching for a new starting goalkeeper after Illan Meslier’s struggles last season. Karl Darlow, who has spent time at both clubs, is not viewed as a long-term solution, either.
Meanwhile, Pope, who helped Newcastle lift the Carabao Cup and qualify for the Champions League this year, is seen as a top-tier option for Leeds, assuming the Magpies find a plug-and-play replacement in the summer transfer window.
Pope has been Newcastle’s No.1 since 2022, but his future is in question with the club expected to bring in Trafford. That development has opened the door for potential suitors, and Leeds are reportedly among the most interested.
According to the Daily Mail, the 33-year-old England international would be a major upgrade for Leeds, offering Premier League experience and stability, although it isn’t quite clear if NUFC’s manager Eddie Howe would approve the sale.
A failed move for Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher has pushed Leeds to shift focus, and Pope is now viewed as an ideal fit, although nothing is set in stone yet.
