'A few surprises' - Jamie Carragher reckons Liverpool could still do something shocking this summer

Liverpool have been one of the busiest teams in the Premier League regarding transfer rumours, even though the window isn’t fully open yet.

Arne Slot’s men are coming off the back of an impressive season with the Anfield outfit bringing home the Premier League title during the Dutchman’s first campaign.

Many expected the Reds to be going through something of a rebuild after Jurgen Klopp’s departure, but instead, they’ve thrived.

However, with their title rivals all looking to strengthen their ranks in the summer, Liverpool must also do the same while also relieving themselves of some deadwood.

Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool could sell some surprise players in the summer

If Liverpool want to remain as dominant as they were last season, they’ll need to ensure that they’re keeping up with their rivals.

Slot will no doubt want to retain the Premier League title next term as well as make a good name for himself in the Champions League after they were knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain this time around.

Speaking on The Overlap’s Fan Debate, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher gave his verdict on what he expects to happen at Anfield this season.

“But in terms of those getting linked, I’m like, no, you wouldn’t want to sell those, but they’re probably thinking, but if someone offers enough money, oh, we will do it,” he said.

“I think the club will be like that now in terms of, they wouldn’t allow, cause Arne Slot’s the head coach, the first head coach in Liverpool’s history.

“They’re never gonna allow, even though he’s won the league in his first season, I don’t think they’re gonna allow what happened with Jürgen Klopp, where it became, he was making these bigger decisions and he’s a god, everyone loves him.”

Three players who could end up leaving Liverpool this summer

Indeed, there are a fair few players who have already been linked with Anfield exits after featuring less than they’d have wanted to last season.

One of those is Harvey Elliott. The former Fulham man was Jurgen Klopp’s star boy, but this term, Slot has preferred the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones over the midfielder.

Elliott left a cryptic message regarding his Liverpool future after their 3-2 defeat against Brighton, but if this is his last campaign for the Anfield outfit, there’s hardly a better way he could have hoped for things to end.

Jarell Quansah is another Liverpool player who is in a similar situation.

Both Bayer Leverkusen and Dortmund have been linked with an interest in Quansah due to the lack of playing time he has received under Slot this term.

How many games Harvey Elliott and Jarell Quansah have played and started for Liverpool this season.

Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk are obviously the Reds’ first options, but even when they’ve needed a rest, Joe Gomez has been the one chosen to fill in.

And, last but not least, even though he’s been one of Liverpool’s most prolific attackers this season, Luis Diaz keeps being linked with an Anfield exit.

Over the last couple of days, Diaz has put out messages which seem like goodbyes, even though he hasn’t directly mentioned an exit.

Of course, only time will tell what the future holds, but with Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez likely to come in, it’s clear that Slot will have to make sales sooner or later.
