Wolves, Everton and several Spanish clubs keen on 23-year-old Sunderland star

Sunderland right-back Trai Hume is attracting interest from Premier League Everton and Wolves this summer, reports Sky Sports.

Sunderland are set to face plenty of interest in several of their star players this summer. Despite promotion to the Premier League, clubs still feel they can test SAFC and their resolve.

It is no surprise that so many of the Black Cats’ stars are attracting attention given how well they have recruited over the past few years. Any player who does go on to better things this summer would represent a massive profit for Sunderland.

The latest SAFC player to be linked with a move away is full-back Trai Hume. Sky Sports have stated that several sides are keen on a move for the 23-year-old.

Premier League duo Everton and Wolves are among the clubs interested. They have also claimed that several La Liga sides are eyeing the Northern Ireland international.

Hume has been with Sunderland since January 2022, when he joined the club from Linfield. He has gone on to make 132 appearances on Wearside, scoring six goals in the process.

He is under contract on Wearside until July 2027, though SAFC hold the option to extend that deal by a year.

Interest no surprise after a starring campaign

Hume has been a particularly consistent performer for Sunderland since his arrival back in 2022. In all four seasons that he has featured for the Black Cats, he has averaged at least a 7.0 match rating, according to FotMob.

This season has been his best yet, both individually and as a team. Hume was a massive part of SAFC’s promotion push, scoring three goals and providing six assists in 47 Championship appearances.

The tough-tackling defender is a fan favourite on Wearside, and it is clear to see why. It would be very surprising if he forced a move away, especially after earning promotion this year.

Rumours inevitable

After Sunderland’s promotion to the top flight, the club opened talks with many of the players over improved contracts. With SAFC working on a strict wage structure in the Championship, this came as no surprise.

With contract matters up for discussion, admiring clubs are bound to have eyes on situations where the opportunity to pounce could arise. Should demands not be met, maybe those keen will make a push for a deal.

Hume certainly deserves a reward for his form this campaign. However, with SAFC holding all the cards as of now, it is unlikely these links will materialise into a move away.
