Player’s move to Chelsea to be made official in ‘next few hours’ – Blues want him for CWC

Chelsea will take part in the Club World Cup, which starts in America on June 14th.

The Blues are working on further improving their squad for this tournament and have now made advances to sign a new player.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who state RC Strasbourg’s Mamadou Sarr is on his way to Chelsea.

The 19-year-old’s transfer to Chelsea is expected to be formalised in the ‘next few hours’.

Sarr joined the Ligue 1 club from Lyon in August of last year and played 28 games in his debut season. The UEFA Conference League winners have been working on this operation since the winter market.

Strasbourg paid €10m for the centre-back and it isn’t clear the fee they will collect from his sale to Chelsea.

The Premier League club are owned by BlueCo, who also own Strasbourg, and this would have made negotiations easier.

L’Equipe state it’s unclear whether he will continue at Chelsea or return to the French club on loan after the Club World Cup.

Enzo Maresca will be keeping a close watch on Sarr in the next few weeks and could then make a decision on whether to include him in his plans for next season.
