Chelsea have secured a return to Champions League football after putting together a strong run of form in the final weeks of the season.

The London giants finished fourth in the Premier League table, having won five of their last six games, including a 1-0 victory at Nottingham Forest on the final day.

Enzo Maresca’s side played the majority of the season without a front-of-shirt sponsor after their £40million-a-year deal with Infinite Athlete expired last summer.

Chelsea wanted to agree a £50million deal for 2024-25 before being forced to lower their asking price as the season went on.

The Premier League side then agreed a deal on 30 April for DAMAC to appear on the front of their shirts for the remainder of the campaign, with the Dubai-based firm also becoming their official property development partner.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Chelsea have been telling people they would agree a lucrative front-of-shirt deal once they secured a return to the Champions League.

Chelsea could have agreed shirt sponsor deal

Borson insisted Chelsea could have previously agreed a shirt sponsor deal that was structured around qualifying for different competitions.

He told Football Insider: “They have been telling people that they were just waiting for Champions League qualification before signing a very lucrative front-of-shirt sponsorship, so we’ll see.

“I think they could have done deals that were structured in the performance of the club. All the other clubs have done that.

“Manchester United have done it, Liverpool have it, City have done it. All that happens is the deal varies.

“United have done it on the kit deal as well, where if you’re not in the Champions League, the deal falls in that season. It’s a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

“I don’t think anybody would ever suggest that Chelsea were never going to get back into the Champions League.

“They were always going to be in the mix. Well, they’re back in the Champions League now.

“Let’s see what the front-of-shirt sponsorship looks like.”

Chelsea get Rafael Leao boost as door opens for deal

Football Insider revealed on 29 May Chelsea are set for a boost in their long-term pursuit of Rafael Leao.

Sources say the London giants could have a “window of opportunity” to sign the Portugal international after AC Milan have failed to qualify for any kind of European football for next season.

The 25-year-old winger registered 12 goals and 13 assists in 50 appearances in the latest campaign.
