What Lionel Messi said about Celtic when playing for Barcelona

Celtic have faced Barcelona on the European stage on many occasions over the years.

The most famous win was the 2012 2-1 Parkhead victory when Neil Lennon’s Bhoys beat Messi’s Barcelona in that famous Celtic Park Champions League night.

After the defeat, Messi said of Celtic and the fans, “I’ve been fortunate to play in some great stadiums in Europe with Barcelona but none compare to Celtic.

“The atmosphere their fans create make it a very special European night of football.

“I’m very excited to play at Celtic again in the group stages. Of course, last time we played in Scotland it was not a good result for us, but next time we will be looking to win.”
