‘Concrete talks…’Man Utd’s path to Viktor Gyokeres clearing after Fabrizio Romano’s Sesko update

Manchester United will move on to a striker search after securing Matheus Cunha and identifying Bryan Mbeumo, and their way to dream target Viktor Gyokeres might be clearing up.

It is an open secret that Ruben Amorim is prioritising an overhaul of the attack after an anaemic season in front of goal for pretty much every attacker.

Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo alone almost scored as much as every attacker at Man Utd combined, a sign of how much strengthening that area needs.

What better way to strengthen it than signing a player who has scored nearly 100 goals in two seasons and knows Ruben Amorim’s system inside out?

Man Utd receive Viktor Gyokeres boost

United seemed unlikely to sign Gyokeres when they failed to qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League final.

Gyokeres was of interest to Arsenal and many other clubs who would offer him Champions League football and potentially higher wages.

All United had to convince Gyokeres was Amorim’s presence, the manager under whom he unlocked another level to his game.

However, Fabrizio Romano reports that United’s way for Gyokeres could be clearing after one competitor has chosen to open concrete talks for Benjamin Sesko.

He said: “[Sesko] will leave Leipzig. Last week, Arsenal had the first concrete, official talks for Benjamin Sesko. They spoke to Leipzig and the player’s agent.

“Contract terms and player value for Leipzig were understood. That’s less than €100 million. Nothing agreed but making contact is showing how concrete the Arsenal interest is. Arsenal are really keen on Sesko.”

Benjamin Sesko update sees stars align for Ruben Amorim

It is interesting to note that Sesko has been linked to United as well for the longest time, but it has always been a passing interest rather than anything concrete like with Gyokeres.

In a way, Sesko is an even bigger gamble than Delap would have been because of their similar age profiles, only Sesko is not even proven in the Premier League.

United need as close to a “sure thing” as possible at No. 9 after taking two punts on Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund, both young players with potential but raw.

Gyokeres is the best “sure thing” on the market and even has English football experience with Coventry City in the Championship.

Now that Arsenal seem to have pivoted to Sesko, it could see the stars align for Gyokeres’ move to Man Utd which looked dead in the water not too long ago.
