Chelsea will reportedly send Jadon Sancho back to Manchester United - despite having an obligation to sign him.

The Blues will pay a £5million cancellation fee to squirm out of the £25m obligation to buy that was part of his loan agreement.

The two parties were unable to agree over terms to make his stay at Stamford Bridge permanent, as per The Athletic.

Sancho will return to Old Trafford, where former boss Erik ten Hag exiled him, as a Europa Conference League winner.

The 25-year-old played 41 times for Chelsea and wrapped up his stint with a goal in their 4-1 demolition of Real Betis in the Conference League final.

He is expected to consider options around England and Europe for his next move.

Sancho had flashes of brilliance for Enzo Maresca's side - fans even sang his name as he came off the bench to score the winner against Bournemouth in September.

For the 23-time England internaitonal, this was a move to the club he had supported as a child and a chance to rebuild his reputation after a middling spell at United.

United signed Sancho for £73m in 2021 after being impressed by his scintillating form at Borussia Dortmund, but he never reached the heights he had in Germany.

After two seasons of blowing hot and cold, he and Ten Hag had an almighty falling-out which saw him banished from first-team training and exiled on loan to Dortmund, where, in flashes, he again found his feet.
