Season predictions - results

Around the start of every season after the summer transfer window has closed, I try to predict how the final league table will look as well as how we’ll do in the cups.

I also conduct match-by-match result predictions, both at the start of the season and then pre-match.

First of all, here’s that very prediction piece from September 2024 (click this link if you wish to see it) .

Here’s how I did

Final League Table 2024-25:

1st Liverpool 2 places out (had ‘em down for 3rd)

-------------------------------------------------

2nd Arsenal SPOT ON!

3rd Manchester City 2 places out (had us down for 1st)

4th Chelsea 1 place out (had ‘em down for 5th)

5th Newcastle United 4 places out (had ‘em down for 9th)

-------------------------------------------------

6th Aston Villa 2 places out (had ‘em down for 4th)

-------------------------------------------------

7th Nottingham Forest 8 places out (had ‘em down for 15th)

-------------------------------------------------

8th Brighton & Hove Albion SPOT ON!

9th AFC Bournemouth 1 place out (had ‘em down for 10th)

10th Brentford 4 places out (had ‘em down for 14th)

11th Fulham 2 places out (had ‘em down for 13th)

12th Crystal Palace SPOT ON!

13th Everton 5 places out (had ‘em down for 18th)

14th West Ham United 3 places out (had ‘em down for 11th)

15th Manyoo 8 places out (had ‘em down for 7th)

16th Wolverhampton Wanderers SPOT ON!

17th Tottenham Hotspur 11 places out (had ‘em down for 6th)

-------------------------------------------------

18th Leicester City 1 place out (had ‘em down for 19th)

19th Ipswich Town 2 places out (had ‘em down for 17th)

20th Southampton SPOT ON!

Any comments to be had there?

I don’t know what you, the reader, thinks but I reckon getting 5 team places spot on, 3 just one place out and 5 just two places out is pretty damn decent. There are 3 absolute misread howlers there in Forest, Manyoo and Spurs and I personally saw them all as eyebrow raisers as the season unfolded.

Looking at our fixtures both pre-season and then pre-match?

**Pre-season:**57.89% results correct.

**Pre-match:**55.26% results correct.

Both sets of results included, that’s the worst I’ve done in the 14 seasons that I’ve been doing this. I think that’s a strong reflection on just how unpredictable and un-City like last season was.

As for the cups…

League Cup- Predicted quarter final.

1 round out. Got knocked out in the 4th round; the round just before the quarters.

F.A. Cup- Predicted quarter final.

2 rounds out. Got to the final and lost…again!

Champions League- Predicted the final and, therefore, possible winners.

WAY OFF! We exited in the 2-legged play-offs of the knock-out phase in the brand new, mad-looking format.

Just like the season before, apart from perhaps the League Cup, I didn’t do too well in my cup predictions.

I was MILES off with how I thought we’d do in the Champions League but, then again, I’m talking about a City side who were 3-0 up at home againstFeyenoord with just 15 minutes remaining of ‘the 90’ only for the game to end 3-3, so I’m giving myself some slack.

Thank you, once again, if you’ve clicked on and decided to read. It’s very much appreciated and have a good day.
