Chelsea have decided to not permanently sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United this summer, according to reports.

The decision means that Chelsea are now required to pay a £5 million penalty fee to United.

Chelsea signed Sancho on a season-long loan from United last summer after he fell out of favour with Erik ten Hag.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, Sancho scored five goals and registered 10 assists in 41 appearances.

Chelsea had the option to sign Sancho for £25m this summer but according to The Athletic, the Conference League winners have been unable to reach an agreement with the winger over personal terms.

Sancho, who United signed in a £72.9m deal from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, still has one year left on his contract worth £300,000 a week.

Speaking about Sancho’s future at Chelsea last week, Enzo Maresca said: ‘From now on we are going to sit with the club and decide what happens for next year.

‘If we finish fourth it is also because of Jadon, if we win tonight it is also because of Jadon. It is normal in a season to go a little bit up and down, it is part of the game.’
