Manchester United set for £5m penalty fee after contract talks breakdown over summer transfer

Man Utd allowed the forward to leave the club on loan last summer and a final decision has been made on his future.

Chelsea are set to pay Manchester United a £5 million penalty fee after they rejected their obligation to buy Jadon Sancho permanently this summer. The 25-year-old joined Chelsea on a loan move last summer that included an obligation to buy worth up to £25 million, subject to personal terms.

Sancho will return to United when his loan deal expires on June 30 after he failed to agree a contract with Chelsea for his proposed permanent move. The forward scored five goals and contributed ten assists for Enzo Maresca’s side as they won the Conference League and secured a top-four finish in the Premier League.

It is understood United will still look to sell Sancho permanently this summer, with interest from England and Europe in his signature. Sancho was exiled under former manager Erik ten Hag and left the club on loan before he was replaced by Ruben Amorim as head coach.

Manchester United plan to overhaul their attack

Manchester United are still expected to sell Jadon Sancho this summer as they look to overhaul their attack under Ruben Amorim. A deal has already been agreed to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves, while talks will soon open over the possible transfer of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.

United have also been handed a huge boost with Bruno Fernandes set to remain at the club after he rejected a lucrative offer to join Al-Hilal before the Club World Cup. The 30-year-old was offered the opportunity to treble his wages in a deal that would have been worth a reported £200 million over three years.

Sancho is not the only forward expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, with the club also hoping to sell Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony. Garnacho was a target for Chelsea in the January transfer window and could once again be on their radar after the decision to pass on Sancho.

Amorim would also like to add a proven goalscorer to his side this summer and is open to offers for Rasmus Hojlund, who is reportedly a target for Inter Milan.
