Newcastle United can sign Bryan Mbeumo alternative as £29m-rated winger made available

Newcastle United transfer target Bryan Mbeumo has set his heart on a move to Manchester United.

The Cameroonian was a target for Newcastle, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur following an outstanding campaign for Brentford, where his 20 goals in the Premier League was bettered only by Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah, Alexander Isak and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.

All three of the clubs mentioned above are able to offer Champions League football but Mbeumo favours a move to Man United, who finished 15th in the table last season and lost the Europa League final to Spurs.

Manchester United set to open Bryan Mbeumo talks

The Red Devils are now expected to enter negotiations with Brentford. Thomas Frank admitted recently that the Bees are a selling club so will consider offers. Sky Sports have claimed Mbeumo is valued at around £60million.

"I've said many times: we are a selling club, Frank told Sky Sports earlier last month. “But at the same time we have to reinforce that there are 10 clubs in the world who aren't selling clubs.

"So, of course, if the right price - and that's going to be expensive - is coming, then I'm sure the club will be open for it. But I'm very happy he's here, and I'm convinced that Bryan will still be happy playing football here."

While Ruben Amorim’s side are unable to provide European football, their financial power means they can still offer Mbeumo a weekly wage beyond most clubs. Mbeumo has 12 months left on his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium, though there is an option of a further year.

Newcastle United eyeing a new right forward

The right forward position is the only area of the squad that hasn’t been significantly strengthened since the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia takeover completed their £305million takeover in October 2021.

Jacob Murphy and Miguel Almiron have shared the burden in that time, however for the last six months, it has just been Murphy after Almiron was re-joined MLS side Atlanta United in January.

Murphy has enjoyed an excellent campaign in black and white with nine goals and 14 assists but Eddie Howe wants competition. Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes and Will Osula have had cameos on the right side but none are natural options.

Newcastle United assessing other options

With Mbeumo now seemingly off the table, Newcastle are assessing their options and one player they could be alerted to is Chelsea’s Noni Madueke.

According to The Guardian, the Blues are open to offers for a host of first-team players, including Madueke. The England international has been tracked by the Magpies in the past.

Madueke moved to Stamford Bridge from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 and has scored 20 goals in 87 appearances. He was a regular in the starting XI last season but could be offloaded in order to help fund a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens.

Christopher Nkunku, Joao Felix, Robert Sanchez and Djordje, Renato Veiga, Ben Chilwell, Axel Disasi, Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Carney Chukwuemeka, Lesley Ugochukwu and Raheem Sterling are the other players Chelsea are reportedly open to offers for.
