Arrowheadlines: Has the Mahomes-Kelce duo lost its touch?

The latest

Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce duo no longer scary and get more bad news before season begins | Marca

Historically, teams that go undefeated in one-score games tend to regress the following season. Those games often hinge on tiny margins not on a replicable formula. And McIntyre believes Kansas City exhausted every bit of that good fortune.

“In the final two games of last year, Travis Kelce looked lost,” McIntyre said. “Two catches for 19 yards against Buffalo. Then in the Super Bowl - four catches for 39 yards.”

This is a man with 1,810 career postseason receiving yards. For Kelce, those stats are a dramatic drop-off.

“I don’t want to say he looked washed - that’s a little harsh - but he’s starting to look his age,” McIntyre added.

Even Mahomes, who tried to reassure fans by saying, “If this is the last ride, you would never know,” couldn’t shift the analyst’s perspective.

“Endings aren’t always pretty,” McIntyre warned. “That [the three-peat chase] was the last ride. They were going for the three-peat. And they failed.”

5.Kansas City Chiefs: DIGeno Atkins,Georgia (Round 4, Pick 120)

Original Pick: SEric Berry,Tennessee

Atkins put together a dominant run from his rookie year in 2010 through 2019. During that time, he earned an elite 93.0 PFF overall grade. Equally elite in the run and pass games, he engineered eight straight seasons with at least a 70.0 PFF grade in both departments.

2025 Eagles game-by-game predictions: Repeating won’t come easy for the champs | FOX Sports

Week 2: at Chiefs, Sunday, Sept. 14

The Eagles didn’t just beat the Chiefs in the Super Bowl last year, they humiliated them, building a 34-0 lead before Kansas City showed a pulse in the third quarter. Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes & Co. aren’t likely to let that happen again. Plus, the Eagles could be in for a letdown since the stakes are low for them.

Result: Loss, 1-1

Every NFL Team’s Biggest Position Battle and Potential Breakout Player | Bleacher Report

Kansas City Chiefs

Top Needs: Interior Defensive Line, Left Guard, Edge-Rusher

Most Important Position Battle to Watch: Left Tackle

Left tackle was a sore spot for the Chiefs until they bumped Joe Thuney outside down the stretch last year. Now, he has been traded and the team has questions at both left tackle and guard. The good news is Kansas City spent resources to ensure it had new options.

Not only did the Chiefs give Jaylon Moore a two-year, $30 million contract, but they also drafted Josh Simmons in the first round. Moore looked the part as a spot-starter for the Niners. The money says the Chiefs believe he could play, but the fact that they drafted Simmons in the first round also says they aren’t convinced.

Moore will have a big advantage in this position battle. Not only does he have more NFL experience, but Simmons is working his way back from a knee injury that ended his final college season. Still, it’s crucial the Chiefs get this one right.

Top Summer Breakout Candidate: IOL Kingsley Suamataia

Thuney’s departure has also opened the left guard spot for competition. That’s good news for Kingsley Suamatia. To this point, he has been the prime example that throwing an early draft pick at a need doesn’t automatically address it. He was supposed to be the answer at left tackle, but it just didn’t happen.

There are plenty of linemen who find a move inside rejuvenates their career, though. Suamatia will compete with Mike Caliendo for the job, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him thrive inside where his run blocking could shine.

2026 NFL mock draft: Version 1.0 from expert has Steelers finding Big Ben’s replacement as 5 QBs go Round 1 | CBS Sports

Round 1 - Pick 29

Suntarine Perkins LB

Ole Miss • Jr • 6’1” / 210 lbs

Despite his size, Perkins can win with his bull rush vs. offensive tackles and force a re-anchor; he also works hard to get off blocks and get to the QB. Insane athleticism, short-area quickness and twitch; creates problems for bigger/slower OTs when he’s coming off the edge. He has legit closing speed coming downhill.

Lions’ Frank Ragnow retires: All-Pro center ends career after seven seasons in Detroit, citing health concerns | CBS Sports

Detroit Lions center Frank Ragnow is retiring after seven seasons in the NFL. Ragnow, 29, announced his decision in an Instagram post Monday, and he cited his future health as the primary reason.

Since he was drafted in 2018, Ragnow has started 96 regular-season games and four playoff games for the Lions. He developed a reputation as one of the best centers in the game, but he’s decided it’s time to hang up his cleats.

In his Instagram post, Ragnow said it has been a “very trying” few months for him as he tried to sort out his NFL future. Ultimately, Ragnow came to the conclusion that his body doesn’t feel good enough to continue playing.

“I’ve tried to convince myself that I’m feeling good but I’m not and it’s time to prioritize my health and my families future,” Ragnow wrote. “I have given this team everything I have and I thought I had more to give, but the reality is I simply don’t. I have to listen to my body and this has been one of the hardest decisions of my life.”

Eagles RB Saquon Barkley lands Madden cover with iconic leap | ESPN

Barkley also has been named to the Madden 99 Club — a first for an Eagles offensive player.

“Starring on the cover of Madden NFL 26 and being named to the Madden NFL ‘99 Club’ are both dreams come true,” Barkley said. “I’m grateful to my teammates, coaches and Eagles fans for their support, and I can’t wait to hit the field again to give Madden players more highlight-reel moments in Madden NFL 26.”

Barkley, the reigning Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year, is coming off one of the best seasons for a running back in NFL history. He rushed for 2,504 yards over the regular season and the postseason, breaking the single-season record.

He had a chance to take down Eric Dickerson’s regular-season rushing title as well but finished 101 yards shy as the Eagles decided to rest their starters in the finale against Barkley’s former team, the New York Giants, so they could be as healthy as possible entering the postseason.

In case you missed it on Arrowhead Pride

Ranking the Chiefs’ biggest AFC threats in 2025

6.Cincinnati Bengals

If this was a power ranking, I’d have the Bengals lower — because I think their defense will once again be a total disaster. They made no moves in free agency and Shemar Stewart is not going to help in Year 1. But having Joe Burrow, Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase will still make Cincinnati a viable threat to the Chiefs.

5.Houston Texans

The Texans have had a terrible offseason; their offensive line moves have been wild. They’re putting a second-round rookie into Laremy Tunsil’s spot. They signed Cam Robinson, Ed Ingram and Laken Tomlinson, who were disasters with their previous teams. The line was bad last year — and somehow, Houston made it worse. Still, the defense is elite.

4.Los Angeles Chargers

Given this season’s poor free-agent class, the Chargers’ patient approach made sense. Nonetheless, I think they’ll be worse this season. With a real running game, the offense should improve — but I think the defense could regress. A year ago, Los Angeles had an easy schedule and was relying on mediocre talent. The team did little to address that situation.
