Liverpool knows final requirement needed to get Florian Wirtz transfer over the line

Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly in the process of negotiating a swift deal for Florian Wirtz. The Reds have already put forward two offers for the attacking midfielder in recent weeks, and are keen to reach an agreement with the Bundesliga club as soon as possible.

Arne Slot's team have already secured Jeremie Frimpong's signature from Leverkusen, and their positive rapport with the German club could expedite a deal for Wirtz.

Sky Sports Germany reports that discussions between the clubs are ongoing and both parties are eager to reach a swift resolution. However, Liverpool's recent bid, amounting to $147 million (£109 million), was turned down - with Leverkusen aiming to secure $170 million (£126 million) for the German international.

It's suggested that the German side have a 'different overall package in mind', which is widely believed to be a player-plus-cash deal that would see Liverpool part ways with one of their peripheral players to finalise the deal.

Leverkusen have shown interest in both Jarell Quansah and Harvey Elliott, although it's unclear whether both are valued similarly or carry the same weight in negotiations.

Elliott has been strongly linked with a departure from Anfield this summer after struggling for game time during Liverpool's title-winning campaign.

The 22-year-old is admired by several Premier League clubs, including Nottingham Forest and Brighton, but a move to the Bundesliga could be appealing.

Liverpool had reportedly considered offering Joe Gomez as part of a deal to secure Newcastle's Anthony Gordon last summer, but the proposition fell through when the Magpies insisted on Quansah instead.

A year on, Liverpool might now see the value in letting go of the center-back to secure their prime target, particularly as they're already scouting for defensive reinforcements.

Slot is eager to sign a new left-back and Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth has already agreed personal terms with the club. Another center-back could also be on the cards, with Ibrahima Konate yet to sign a contract extension at Anfield and Gomez's future still up in the air.

Considering further investment, it's unclear whether Liverpool are prepared to negotiate a player-plus-cash deal with Leverkusen for Wirtz and keep funds available for additional signings.

Meanwhile, the Athletic reports that Arne Slot has also held talks with Rayan Cherki and even left his holiday early to speak to the Lyon midfielder.

Cherki has been linked with Manchester City in recent weeks and it is claimed that Liverpool met with his representatives before the chase for Wirtz intensified.
