Trevoh Chalobah was beaming from ear to ear when he reflected on his recent fortunes, which have seen him lift a European trophy with Chelsea and join up with the England senior squad for the first time.
The Blues ended our campaign with silverware after defeating Real Betis 4-1 in Poland to win the UEFA Conference League. A week prior, the defender learned he would be part of Thomas Tuchel’s latest Three Lions squad for games later this month against Andorra and Senegal.
As weeks go, they don’t come much better. So, when Trev took time to reflect on his recent journey, you can excuse the beaming smile.
‘What a week it’s been!’ Chalobah said after his maiden call-up. ‘To win a trophy with my club, and to then follow that up with my first senior England call-up is really special.
‘Playing for my country is something that’s been a goal of mine for a few seasons now, so I’m really happy and just glad to be here with the boys now.
‘I’ve settled in really well with the group, I already knew a lot of the boys here anyway so it was easy to do so. I’m just excited to get going and to enjoy the week.
‘I’m looking forward to getting stuck into the training and to be ready for the games.’
Football runs in the Chalobah family. Trev’s brother, Nathaniel, also featured for Chelsea and came through the England ranks, so he acts as a good sounding board for the Cobham graduate when required.
‘My brother is a big support to me and he was buzzing for me when I shared the news of my call-up,’ added Chalobah.
‘He’s obviously been called up before, so knows what it’s about and like I said, it was just a really cool moment for me to be able to share this with my family.
‘Everybody was really happy and excited for me, so that was really nice.’
