Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future at Everton is uncertain.

David Moyes‘ side are yet to agree on a new deal with the 28-year-old, who is out of contract on 30 June.

The Blues have been in the market for strikers already, missing out on Liam Delap’s signature, as the Ipswich frontman chose Chelsea instead.

However, that does not bode well for the former Sheffield United man’s future on Merseyside.

Everton poised for transfer amid Calvert-Lewin questions

The Friedkin Group are set to back Moyes in the transfer window, and an attacker will be high on the list given the fact that Calvert-Lewin has just three goals this season.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

A report from The Athletic (3 June) claims that there is “major doubt” over whether the 11-cap England international will remain with the Toffees.

Iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that it is obvious that the Blues are in the market for a replacement amid the Englishman’s constant fitness struggles.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, he said: “He has had so many injury problems in his career, not so many lately, I’ll grant you.

“It has got to the stage with him now where it is quite a long time since he was a major contributor to Everton’s season, quite often through no fault of his own.

“You have seen Everton were pretty keen, they are not going to get him, on getting Liam Delap, who has gone to Chelsea, that tells you Everton are looking for a central striker, a goalscorer who can play for them week in, week out.

“I think Calvert-Lewin’s injury record probably puts a question mark about him and where he is with Everton.

“If you are a manager and you are David Moyes, you are looking at that, you are going to say ‘well, can we rely on him to be out there next season? How many games are we going to get from him?’

“His goal return is not phenomenal, that is why they are in the marketplace for a striker.”

Calvert-Lewin and Everton should move on

At his peak, Calvert-Lewin was a nuisance for Premier League defenders, as he proved when he scored 16 goals in the competition in the 2020/21 campaign.

However, he has not been at that level for several years now, with his best return since being seven strikes last season under Sean Dyche.

He scored just three this season in 26 appearances, with injuries once again taking their toll on the Blues forward.

It is time for Everton to move on and find a striker that they can rely on to not just score on a regular basis, but play consistently, as the ex-Three Lions ace has been unable to do that.
