Manchester United look to be getting their summer transfer window business done early, as Matheus Cunha could soon be followed by Brentford ace Bryan Mbeumo - and fans in the Manchester Evening News comments section are pleased to see both the player's positive response, and the sense of urgency about summer signings.

The 25-year-old is in the final 12 months of his contract at the Bees, and he's hot property after a 20-goal season in the Premier League. Arsenal, Spurs and Newcastle United have all expressed an interest in him, but The Athletic claims that it's United who have convinced him to open talks first.

The Manchester Evening News understands United hold a strong interest in £50m-rated Mbeumo and the player is thought to be open to the move.

United have been sorely lacking in goals over the past season, and the addition of Matheus Cunha and a potential deal for Cameroon international Mbeumo could go a long way towards solving that issue.

Brentford have resigned themselves to losing him, with manager Thomas Frank saying last month: "I would say that I would be surprised if a lot of big clubs don’t look at him. I would be surprised with what he has to offer.

“How many wingers score 20 goals for a mid-table club? And then with seven assists plus his work ethic. And his character. All these things mean that he has a lot, so he is a good player."

Some fans reckon that the club hierarchy are making impressive moves that will put a nightmare of a season firmly behind them. Reader RociLal says: "Mbeumo with Cunha up front would be huge improvements on Hojlund and Zirkzee. Both are seasoned Premier League performers with very good scoring records, and at the right age.

"He's into the last year of his contract, so if his price can be negotiated down, Mbeumo would be a very good upgrade for Man United. Get it done before June 10th and ship out both Bruno and Onana to the Saudi league before that."

Mbeumo is on commenter Verdad's forwards wishlist too: "Amad is one of the league's best and fits the managers system perfectly. He defends as good as he attacks. Mbeumo would be a game changer if they get him signed. Cunha would be a game changer and he has been signed. Just need 1 PROVEN Striker."

Not everyone is convinced of his value, with Anniemause writing: "Mbuemo may be good going forward perhaps, but can he be the primary playmaker in transition from defence to his stats. Given his pass completion is an abysmal 66.1% (10% worse than Bruno last season and worse than any other United player who played last season) that answer is likely no.

"In a squad that is critiqued for its wasteful and sloppy passing being part of its attacking problem it would seem Mbuemo would be a liability. For comparison the worst United outfield player was Zirkzee with a completion rate of 71.2%."

On our Facebook page, Maazị Chiedozie Ndubuisi says: "Cunha and Mbeumo... 2 players I will definitely respect a lot. They join us at our very lowest. These are the type of players we should be pushing for."

Daniel Omodara writes: "I think United board are beginning to get it right since Sir Alex retired. If they can continue like this, then United is going to be fixed in the next two summers."

Candice Mokoena adds: "I'm very impressed for once! This is how big teams move! Not that nonsense of endless negotiations for one player the entire window."
