Malaga youngster Antoñito Cordero is set to join Newcastle United, with the Spanish club confirming his intention to leave on a free transfer.
That’s [according to Marca](https://www.marca.com/futbol/malaga/2025/06/02/malaga-dice-adios-cordero-escueto-comunicado.html) and [La Opinion de Malaga](https://www.laopiniondemalaga.es/malagacf/2025/06/02/malaga-cf-confirma-salida-antonito-cordero-118128568.html), who both cover the situation today and say the forward is on his way to Newcastle.
Marca report that Malaga said goodbye to Cordero in ‘a brief statement’ yesterday, that was exactly 51 words in total.
_‘Antoñito Cordero will finish his journey at the Malaga Football Club when his contractual connection ends on June 30, 2025,’_ it said.
_‘Through his representative agency, the natural player of Jerez de la Frontera has conveyed his decision not to renew with our entity. Good luck, Antonio.’_
Marca say that he is now ‘leaving for Newcastle’.
La Opinion de Malaga say the same, reporting that it was an ‘open secret’ that Cordero was leaving but has now been made official by Malaga’s statement.
They add that Cordero is now free to sign for Newcastle United and will do so. He is set for a ‘big leap’ on a sporting level but also an economic level at St James Park. It will also be his first experience of living outside of Spain.
Back at Malaga, meanwhile, they’ll be left to regret losing out on a talent they’ve developed for a free, to a Premier League side who could have easily afforded a fee this summer.
They don’t appear to be too happy with the player or his agents, with that statement clearly indicating they’re not happy how matters have gone down.
