It was all going too well for Manchester United which the club just isn’t used to, so bad news was around the corner and Jadon Sancho has just popped up with it.
Chelsea retained the option to send Jadon Sancho back to Man Utd by paying a penalty fee of £5 million.
After a loan spell that started well and the narrative was going around that United missed out on another, Sancho quickly reverted to form.
Still, Chelsea had a mandatory buy clause worth about £25 million so that penalty fee largely felt like legalese that is a part of any contract.

Chelsea make Jadon Sancho decision
The loan spell itself was already embarrassing for Sancho because United were still paying a part of his wages to enable him to play for a rival club.
However, that was a hit United were willing to take to shift him permanently at the end of his loan spell, especially since he ended the spell with a goal in the Conference League final.
Fabrizio Romano had reported that only one factor could’ve seen Sancho return to Man Utd, which was an agreement over personal terms.
The Athletic are now reporting that Sancho is set to return to Old Trafford after no agreement could be reached on personal terms.

The hope was that Sancho would take a pay cut to move to a stable club where he liked playing and would appear in the Champions League next season.
However, it seems like he’s happy to ride the bench or play for a new team on loan every season while cashing in his United wages, which he has Ed Woodward and Richard Arnold to thank for.
Jadon Sancho should be embarrassed
It feels like a moot point now because it won’t happen, but the lack of self-awareness from Sancho is startling.
Not only was he throwing petty digs at United while the club was still paying a part of his salary, but another club is now actively paying United to not buy him.
He could have taken a hit on his wages for stability and then taken it upon himself to prove his worth at Chelsea in hopes of gaining a rise again.
Instead, it’s almost certain that he’ll see out his contract at Man Utd after which he’ll have to take a massive pay cut to even continue playing football.
At that time, the pay cut Chelsea reportedly offered to him (50%) won’t look so bad when he’s struggling to find any club with his unprofessional history and lackadaisical attitude.
